Ukrainian Soldier Killed In Attack Launched by Pro-Russian Militants In Donbas

Over the past day, 28 February, the armed formations of the Russian Federation violated the ceasefire regime in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) area seven times.

The Russian-occupation troops opened aimed fire from 120mm mortars, grenade launchers of different systems, heavy machine guns, small arms and sniping weapons near the village of Pyshchevyk in the Donetsk region. A Ukrainian soldier was killed in the enemy attack. The Joint Forces Command expresses its sincere and deep condolences to the family of the fallen soldier.

In the area of Shyrokyne and Vodiane in the Sea of Azov area, the occupiers fired grenade launchers of different systems, heavy machine guns and small arms. An enemy UAV crossed the contact line in the same area. It was suppressed timely by the electronic warfare equipment.

The main purpose of actions of the armed formations of certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions was to provoke the Armed Forces of Ukraine into returning fire to further accuse them of violating the ceasefire regime. In several cases, the enemy shelled Ukrainian positions and simultaneously requested a ceasefire, allegedly due to the attacks launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side of the Joint Control and Coordination Centre (JCCC) took measures of response to all the facts of recorded violations within the coordination mechanism through the OSCE SMM.

As of 07:00, 1 March, one ceasefire violation was recorded. The armed formations of the Russian Federation opened aimed fire from grenade machine guns and tripod-mounted, man-portable, antitank guns near Pavlopil in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian troops fired back in response to the enemy attack.

Ukrainian servicepersons continue to monitor the situation in the Joint Forces Operation area and adhere to the ceasefire regime.
