Ukraine will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its independence for three days – from 22-24 August, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced at a press conference, assuring that the country will remember this holiday forever.

On 22 August, an awards ceremony of great Ukrainians will be launched to acknowledge the legends that glorify the country around the world. An awards ceremony, a concert, as well as meetings with leaders of other states will be held.

“23 August is the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine. Large flags will be raised in all regions and will remain in the centres of the regions forever. In addition, the first summit on the de-occupation of our Crimean Peninsula – the Crimean Platform – will take place on 23 August. There will be many representatives of foreign countries, there will be important documents. Presidents, prime ministers, heads of churches of other countries, ministers of foreign affairs are invited,” the Head of State said.

As the President informed, the first summit of first ladies and gentlemen will take place, at which “very important human issues, which are not usually raised by leaders” will be discussed.

A big concert of Ukrainian opera and ballet legends is also scheduled for 23 August.

A military parade will be held on 24 August and a concert of stars at the National Sports Complex Olimpiyskiy will start in the evening.

By Independence Day, Ukraine will also receive the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk. Anybody who wants to will be able to see it.

To date, the priority is to resolve the issues of the war in the east and the de-occupation of Ukrainian territories, Zelensky said.

“We will continue to work in the ‘Normandy format’ … I feel the support of Macron and Merkel. I think they should support more; I think that they have recently weakened their stance on Russia due to the economic situation and pressure exerted by business within countries … ” the Head of State said. He also added that a “conversation has begun” between his Office and Russia.

In addition, Zelensky noted that the partner countries supported Ukraine, the clusters with Germany and France had already been agreed upon, but no agreement with Russia was reached. He reminded that he had offered to hold a meeting with the president of Russia in Donbas, but Vladimir Putin wanted to hold a meeting in Moscow.
