On Monday, 27 May, Promote Ukraine and the Veteran Coalition International were proud to bring together partners from different countries to share insights, lessons learned, and best practices for supporting veterans.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

With the ongoing war in Ukraine, the veteran community has seen a significant surge, presenting both challenges and opportunities for the country’s future. As of early 2022, Ukraine had already hosted 400,000 veterans, and following Russia’s full-scale invasion, this number has grown exponentially. These veterans hold immense potential to shape Ukraine’s trajectory in various aspects, including its economy, politics, culture, and society. However, ensuring their successful reintegration and support remains a crucial task.

During the conference, we’ve discussed the following topics:

  • Showcase the resilience, accomplishments, and challenges faced by veterans, especially in Ukraine.
  • Encourage continued collaboration on veteran affairs among governments, as well as society and NGOs.
  • Highlight the importance of cross-cultural knowledge exchange and collaboration in veteran support.
  • Foster a relaxed environment for networking and personal interactions between veterans and their supporters.

We believe such events are crucial for fostering mutual exchange and learning, allowing us to collectively work towards comprehensive solutions.

We want to express gratitude to our speakers:

  • Yurii Kozlovskyi– Ukrainian veteran and former Senior Officer at the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
  • Emmanuel Jacob – President of EUROMIL.
  • Major General Serhii Salkutsan – Military Representative of Ukraine to NATO.
  • Lieutenant-general (Retd) Marc Thys – Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the King of the Belgians, Senior Associate Fellow Egmontinstitute.
  • Andriy Siromakha – came to the conference from the Netherlands and took the floor at the press conference.
  • Moderator: Philippe Lefevre, Freelance Security and Defence Advisor.

And special thanks to the Mission of Ukraine to NATO for joining and supporting this event!
