Not only Armenians but also Russian “peacekeepers” were captured by Azerbaijan troops in the Hadrut district of unrecognised Nagorny-Karabakh. The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated that.

“According to our information, Russian ‘peacekeepers’ were also surrounded. There are hitches with communication in the area due to many circumstances,” Pashinyan said.

However, official Moscow denied such information about its peacekeepers.

“Information about the encirclement of Russian peacekeepers’ units in Nagorno-Karabakh is not true,” the Russian military said.

Russia’s Defence Ministry stressed that the Russian military personnel carried out their tasks in the region as usual and added that “the ceasefire is kept along the entire front line by both sides.”

To recap, Armenia accused Azerbaijan of resuming hostilities in the south of the region on 12 December. The Russian military also confirmed that a ceasefire had been violated. Azerbaijan reported that there was a provocation by the remnants of the Armenian units, during which four Azerbaijanis were killed.
