Ukrainian Sailors Freed from Nigerian Captivity

Stevia

On Saturday, 30 January, six Ukrainian sailors of the Stevia cargo vessel were released from pirate captivity in Nigeria, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed on his Instagram page.

“Six Ukrainian sailors – crew members of the Stevia vessel who were held in pirate captivity in Nigeria for one month and a half – have been released today. Our citizens are safe, and we are waiting for their return to their homeland as soon as possible,” Zelensky wrote.

He expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian diplomats and all those involved in the release of Ukrainian citizens.

As a reminder, in December last year, armed pirates hijacked the Stevia vessel and took hostage eight crew members, including six Ukrainians, in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea.
