Belgium recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

As the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Belgium noted, this decision is highly symbolic for Ukraine “especially today when Ukrainians once again suffer from genocide committed by russia.”

“A historic voting in the Belgian House of Representatives: one more state recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people! I’m thankful to Belgium for this important decision for every Ukrainian, for this deeply symbolic step today!” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky posted on Twitter.

At the same time, Georges Dallemagne, a member of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Belgium, also stressed that the decision of the Chamber of Representatives is historic.

“A precise definition of crimes always brings relief to victims. This is an act of justice in itself. The right words can help heal the oldest, most festering wounds. It was a historic moment,” he noted.

The politician also thanked all the MPs who supported the relevant resolution.
