German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas is coming for a one-day visit to Kyiv on 24 August. During the meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, it is planned to discuss issues related to resolving the Russian war in Donbas and reforms of the Ukrainian government.

According to the press service of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Head of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs will meet his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The topics of the talks will be, among other things, about the further course of action in the ‘Normandy format‘ to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the reform program of the Ukrainian government.” the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

It should be recalled that Gaiko Maas recently stated that democratic elections in some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions are still impossible. According to him, in the territories of Donbas not controlled by the government of Ukraine, there are currently no necessary conditions, as provided in the Minsk agreements.

At the same time, the Minister stressed that “for the first time in a long time, there has been observed the ceasefire regime, which gives people in eastern Ukraine the much-needed rest. At the same time, Ukraine has shown flexibility and readiness to meet. Maas also noted that Germany continues to rely on “Russia’s constructive participation in the Normandy format.”
