According to the Viasna Belarusian Human Rights Centre, at least 112 people – 18 women and 94 men – in Belarus celebrated the New Year being under administrative arrest.

The total number of citizens against whom criminal proceedings were instituted during the election campaign and after the August presidential election in Belarus exceeded 900. However, Viasna knows the names of only 634 people. Earlier, the human rights centre reported that at least 750 people had been detained during protests in December.

As a reminder, mass protests are taking place in Belarus against the falsification of the results of the 9 August presidential election, in which Alexander Lukashenka was declared the winner. He accused Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine of financing the strikes.
